Haevan Lee and Dahoon Nam are featured in The Summer We Call Ours, an exhibition celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Gyeonggi Museum of Modern Art. Bringing together the work of 26 emerging artists, the show employs the metaphor of “summer” to explore the immediacy of the present and the vibrant midpoint of youth.
Drawing on a childhood spent near the DMZ, Lee explores the layered complexities of borderlands in Blooming Cluster and Guardians of the Boundary (2026). Across expansive, shaped canvases, she interweaves the distinctive ecology of restricted zones with military motifs and territorial markers, conjuring a surreal terrain where untamed nature is laced with geopolitical tension.
Dahoon Nam presents a more interior exploration with his installation July 12, 2008, Cheongu 3rd Complex, Building 106, Unit 507 (2017–2026), a reconstruction of his childhood apartment from memory. By rendering mundane objects—a computer, a dining table, a tennis ball—in humble, insubstantial materials such as cardboard and Styrofoam, he imbues these familiar forms with a provisional rawness, blurring the boundaries between lived experience, memory, and representation.
