BB&M is pleased to announce its representation of Jo Jae, an artist whose practice explores the fragmentation and disconnection of perception arising from conditions in which physical reality and the digital environment increasingly mirror and expand one another. Working across painting, installation, sound, and digital technology, Jo materializes screen-circulated images into sculptural language, making visible the structure and conditions of contemporary perception. Her work poses a persistent question: how can painting respond and survive in an environment of image overload.
Jo received her BFA in Painting from Sungkyunkwan University, MFA in Painting from the Royal College of Art (London), and finished coursework for a Ph.D. in Sculpture from Seoul National University. Jo has presented solo exhibitions at WWNN (Seoul, 2025) and Kumho Museum of Art (Seoul, 2023), and has participated in group exhibitions at the Korean Cultural Centre UK (London, 2025), BB&M (Seoul, 2025), Woo Suk Gallery, Seoul National University (Seoul, 2022), Unit 1 Gallery | Workshop (London, 2018), and Hockney Gallery (London, 2015), among others. She was selected for the 20th Kumho Young Artist Program and the Seoul National University Next Generation Researcher Program (2023), and received The Hopper Prize (2018).
BB&M looks forward to the continued development of Jo's practice and the questions it raises at the intersection of medium, sensation, and the boundaries between the real and the virtual.
