The Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation, one of the oldest and most respected cultural organizations in the Arabian Gulf, has conferred the Abu Dhabi Festival Award on Lee Bul in recognition of her groundbreaking contributions to contemporary art.
Established in 2012 to honor outstanding lifetime achievements in the fields of arts and culture, the Abu Dhabi Festival Award has previously been bestowed on musical luminaries such as Quincy Jones, Philip Glass, and Daniel Barenboim, underscoring its stature as a distinction reserved for figures of enduring global influence.
Following Christo, who received the award in 2021, Lee Bul is only the second visual artist ever to be honored, a rare recognition that highlights not only the significance of her practice within the visual arts, but also the far-reaching impact of her work across disciplines, geographies, and cultural contexts.
